JUNIOR TRAINING CAMP 2011 - Day 3

And here we are, the last day of Junior Training Camp 2011.

We kick off for the day with a morning exercise at 6.30a.m., it was delayed 30 minutes than the day before to allow juniors to get enough rest after the campfire the day before. Anyway, after that, it was time for inspection/layout. Participants was ordered to strike all their gadgets except for their tents besides clearing their campsite.

The typical aftermath of clearing = bamboo
and again, bamboo, but just shorter and thinner types

And the classic procedures of inspection:
 "baris" the members
Report (Prob. S P/L See Yu Sheng in the white hoody)

Inspect (Prob. S P/L Puah Fei inspecting)

And post inspection report.

Then, it was time for breakfast!
Mas. Roy Lam Phoung getting a boiling egg out of the pot

Mas. Tan Chin Hong, Mas. Ooi Zhi Hao and Mas. Roy Lam Phoung in the kitchen

Prob. S P/S Lim Yu Yang marking test papers in the kitchen?! Seriously, this guy is kinda strange, first he posed in the kitchen (day 1) now he's marking papers?

Besides having breakfast, participants was clearing their campsites, technically, it should be striking their tents.

Then, form 1s had retest for the tests they sat for during the first and second day of the camp whereas form 2s had retest for kawad tongkat. Unfortunately, form 2s failed again, seriously, train before you guys retest!

After retest, it was time for station games!
Mas. Teh Gia Sheng preparing the balloons
Prob. S P/S Koay Zhi Xi also doing so

The stations are:

  1. Sumo
  2. Blind walking
  3. Football
  4. Picking marbles using toes
  5. Passing ping pong mouth using mouth
  6. Throwing water balloon

Well, participants had fun, that was the most important factor anyway.

After clearing up themselves, it was time for closing ceremony. Here are SOME of the photos:

JUNIOR TRAINING CAMP 2011 - Day 2

We kick off for the day with morning exercise at 6.00 a.m. in the morning! (sorry, no pictures)

Then, participants get back to their campsites to get ready for morning inspection / layout.
Prob. S P/L Tan Pei Seng briefing P/Ls about what to do before inspection

At 7.30 a.m. sharp, morning inspection started, we carried on although there was a slight rain.

Prob. S P/L See Yu Sheng and Prob. S P/S Chew Ming Chan advising participants about gadjets

After morning inspection, it was time for backwoodsman cooking competition! Unfortunately, the participant's performance in preparing the fire is less promising a took too much time, dealying the programme. Thus, technically, the competition was canceled. Anyway, it was still carried out as a practice.

Participants preparing fire and bamboo required for backwoodsman cooking

Things did not go so well, and O/C went to help out juniors with their fire.

Meanwhile, senior troop was messing around with a mini-fire! Technicaly, it was Prob. S P/S Khoy Ho Kim. It did not take more than 2 minutes to ignite.
Firstly, arrange the fire wood.
Secondly, light it up.

Stabilize it and we had a fire!

No more messing around, time for serious business!
Prob. S P/L See Yu Sheng, Prob. S P/L Chan Wei Yang and Prob. T/L Ooi Yeong Sheng with senior troop's second fire, this time, a serious and standard fire.
Guess what, Prob. S P/S Koay Zhi Xi also joined the fun. Our fire was the first to light out although we were the last to start.

While some was messing with the fire, the inspector panel went to help up juniors.
 Prob. S P/L Puah Fei
The igniting fire, with a small water bubble there. Oops, wet firewood.

 Preparing the food.
Mas. Tan Chin Hong helping out one of the juniors.
Dear juniors, this is NOT the correct way of backwoodsman cooking.
Well, at least this is, cook with the heat, not the fire.
 Cooking.
Oops, the fire ignited.

After backwoodsman cooking competition, it was time for lunch and rest. Here are some in-between scence.
Prob. S P/L Wong Eu Ca in bike action!
The only mini gadget submitted. Average for a starter, but still a long way to go.
This tall guy just loves his bike too much.
Prob. S P/S looking at the mess, his next words should be "CLEAR" or something like that.

Prob. S P/L Quah Fu Yong walking and smiling, at left, Prob. S P/S Wilson Saw Wei Sheng preparing food, as usual.
And this, form 1's lunch, of course, with rice or something like that, really looks nice! It was delicious!

And this, O/Cs' lunch, kinda good to be juniors sometimes.

After clearing up the fire place, it was time for station tests and iron scout competition. The station tests for form 1s include:

  1. Knots (pratical)
  2. Memilih tapak perkhemahan
  3. Bendera Malaysia dan Negeri
  4. Arah mata angin dan mengenali peta topo
  5. Alat pertolongan cemas
  6. Manjaga dan menyimpan pisau dan parang
Most of them were theory tests and there wasn't much photos. Performance was above average.

Iron scout competition for form 2s was:

  1. Panjat tali
  2. Monkey crawl & deadman's crawl
  3. Isyarat sulit
  4. Transportation
  5. Commando crawl + duck walk
Well, at least form 2s had a good time searching for Prob. T/L Walliam Peh for the transportation station. By the way form 2s, from what you guys see in the iron scout competition, it is really time for you guys to brush up your physical.

Once again, sorry guys! No photos for this two activities, but there is for gateway construction!

 Prob. T/L Khoo Yi Sen
Once in awhile, Prob. T/L Neoh Jia Shern is working.
Mas. Ivan Loh, Mas. Cheok Koon Hean and Prob. S P/L Puah Fei working with firewood
Prob. T/L Neoh Jia Shern with the brick
Prob. T/L Khoo Yi Sen working out of the roller.

After station test / iron scout competition, it was time for kawad tongkat for both forms! Firstly, congratulations to form 1s for passing the test ( in other words, thank your tester, Prob. S P/L Tan Pei Seng). Sadly, too bad for form 2s who failed, work harder and better luck next time! (in other words, your tester wants better, that's all)

Form 1 in action:
 Side view of the squad.
Form 1:" WE ARE READY!"
 Serious, no smileys..
See that guy in a red shirt, that is their tester, Prob. S P/L Tan Pei Seng
 Hormat tongkat
Baring tongkat

Okay, enough for the form 1s, now for the form 2, which of course, tougher.
Whistle = Run to squad

 All in squad, ready guys?

 Julang tongkat

 Oh, commander, you too!

 Walk/March

Moments of the end of test.

Okay, enough for the kawad tongkat part. Just a note for form 2s, plan a kawad tongkat retest as soon as possible. After that, it was time for knots board competition. Rules were simple, knots which were not in usaha, maju and jaya syllabus can be pre-prepared.

Champion's knots board, but still big improvement space aviable
Don't just stare at the board! Do something!

After knots board competition, it was time for dinner and rest. For senior troop, dinner time for junior = preperation time for campfire. As said, sometimes, it is REALLY good to be juniors, hope they appreaciate it.

Prob. T/L Khoo Yi Sen with a cat, the cute little kittie, Walliam's best buddy?

Finally, the moment of the camp, CAMPFIRE!

Prob. S P/L Tan Pei Seng briefing participants before the campfire

Our mighty gateway connected to the campfire!
By the way, a message to T/L Ang Wei Ying, our ex-Group Duty Master:-
True quality requires no banner to shed of the weak spots!

Okay, it was literally a joke, let's move on.

Prob. S P/L Tan Pei Seng, organizing chairman and teacher advisor, Mr. Ooi Eng Aun igniting the campfire.
 Campfire burning, campfire burning...

 Performances by participants
Prob. T/L Khoo Yi Sen taking over the master of ceremony role for awhile, must be overexcited or something/
 Free dance by form 2
Form 3s went to lead the free dance
And Senior Troop joined the fun!
This free dance looks kinda dull
Now that is more like it, the carry-wei-yang tradition!

Performance by participants again.

Sing along the theme song!
There goes the campfire, and that means...
 Fall-in!
 Serious, no smiley when "sedia"
Mas. Tan Chin Hong messing with the speakers

The campfire marked the end of day 2. Participants went to bed after that and O/Cs stayed up a little later to clear up the post-campfire mess. That's all for day 2, stay tuned to day 3!
