Survival Camp 09 / Pioneering

For sure, we would not waste our holiday doing nothing as a scout
so scouting activities go on, and the Senior Troop had its Survival Camp,
which was on 24-25 Sept 09.
This camp was a test camp for us, the remaining tests for the 5 chief scout badges
so, the schedule:

24/09/2009

7.30a.m. - Check in (Full uniform)

7.45a.m.-10.00a.m. - Gadget Construction

- minimum 8

- compulsory: shelter (bivouac, no atap), flag pole (floating)

10.30a.m.-2.00p.m. - Backwoods (2 person 1 team)

-NO firewood

-twist, potato, rice, egg, fish, chicken, pancake

2.30p.m.-5.30p.m. - Asas Pembarisan (full uniform)

6.00p.m.-8.00p.m. - Modern Cooking

9.00p.m.-11.00p.m. - Jaya Diri test

25/09/2009

8.00a.m.-8.45a.m. - Inspection (full uniform)

9.00a.m.-12.00p.m. - Tests

-melempar tali (2 times)

-estimation (theory and practical)

-takal & pancang (theory and practical)

12.30p.m.-4.30p.m. - Pioneering

6.00p.m. - Check Out

the pics below cover mainly on the pioneering,
as in the whole camp we were so busy
that we have no much time to capture any photo.

we have to prepare a model on our pioneering gadget before camp

and this was a work of a lamer,
which has too much time during gadget construction.

some photos during the morning inspection

time to rest, but not forever my friend.

the last task for us was Pioneering
and we had 2 patrols, so there were 2 gadgets:
Hour Glass tower and Signal tower

In the end, everyone get sunburn and exhausted,
but the another purpose behind this camp, which we think,
was to remind us, the seniors
of the conditions where our juniors having their camps,
and their feelings, or whether the trainings we give are too tough.
so it reminds the seniors to be more rational and emphatic when training the juniors.
And, what the juniors will face in future,
we, the seniors went through all of these as well.
I just want to say, we love our juniors.
and I hope they realize this as well.

Group Maintenance 19/09/09

It has been quite a long while since the last update
we've been quite busy these days, until the Raya holiday
on the first day of Raya hols, we've held a weekly Troop Meeting,
at least, we planned to do so.
since it's holiday, we have arranged for our junior to have fun and play some games

however, on 19/09/2009,
I went to school at 7am.
Once my foot touches the ground,
Oh my~~there's a layer of mud on top of the tar road!
that only means 1 thing, flood in Chung Ling!!
flood in Chung Ling?!means Scout Den must have....
Our T/L Quartermaster and I rushed to the Scout Den,
and as expected, the bamboos were flushed away from the rack,
rubbish from the river were left here after the flood,
and there is mud everywhere!!!
and we were unable to open the gate,
not until we've cleared the rubbish and bamboos that were flushed and stuck on the gate.

Of course we felt so frustrated with what was in front of us,
what a terrible sight.
So, sadly,for our juniors,
their station games had to be canceled,
instead Group Maintenance is held.
All the seniors and juniors, including our teacher adviser,
helped in restoring the original condition of our scout den.
so the job began,
we changed our uniform to casual,
inspected the condition of our scout den,
gathered tools and man power,
and started our job!

1st of all, sorry for the poor quality of the following pictures,
as all was taken by my phone's camera,
and also, because of Mas. Lim Teik Hua did not bring his DSLR.

Moreover, we were busy doing the cleaning,
so I did not have much time to take the pictures.

Whoa, what a big change, solid Grey cement floor>>brown muddy wet floor

This is not cool at all,
we have to remove all the bamboo and rubbish just to open the gate.

view from the gate, the path and floor was deposited with a thick layer of mud!
and luckily, it's still wet, so we can do the cleansing easier.

this was done by the Forces of Nature

well let's take a look in the meeting room....
Great..

and this is the store room

The hall, and the river is just over the zinc fence.

11 GTS!

The seniors were in-charged of cleaning the scout den,
while the juniors cleaned the field and arranged the bamboos.

and, at last, around the noon, we were done with it and scout den is restored to its original condition!
Thanks to seniors and juniors who came to help,
and of course our teacher adviser.
Unite we stand, without the man power of almost 100 people,
this heavy task could not be done within 5 hours.
